The Parents And Communities as Experts (PACE) Study was designed to learn how families and communities in Maryland navigated the return to in-person school in elementary and middle schools during the 2021-22 school year. In this report, we summarize the findings of our project, methodology, processes, and results.

Mary Cariola initiated a back-to-school media pitch at the end of August to our local news channels; WXXI, WHAM- Radio, Channel 8, 10, 13, and Spectrum News. The focus was to understand the long- term effects of COVID on the IDD population and the importance of continued testing. As schools started to welcome back their students, Channel 13 News took the opportunity to highlight local schools within the community. Reporter, Alexis Arnold, visited the Mary Cariola school on September 8, 2023 and spoke with Karen Zandi, President/ CEO and others.

Communications & Social Media Toolkits
This toolkit includes practical, actionable resources and recommendations to support schools in communicating about COVID-19. This toolkit is for individuals and teams who are responsible for providing health and safety information about COVID-19, and other stakeholders who support parents and students attending in-person school. The how-to guides, checklists, suggested messaging and materials emphasize the importance of collaboration between schools and families to support COVID-safe environments for in-person learning.
Research Summary
NeURoscience Newsletter, which highlights critical research at the University of Rochester dedicated to understanding the human brain, told 'how an unlikely team kept students with severe and complex disabilities safe and in school' featuring the RADx-UP collaboration between the University of Rochester's Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRC) and the Mary Cariola Center.

COVID-19 Testing, Learning, and Consultation Study (School TLC Study)
This is the year-end (2022-2023) report shared with the Kansas City Public School (KCPS) district about the RADx-UP research project. It features impacts and results of their on-demand COVID-19 testing offered by the School TLC Study at KCPS schools and community-based locations outside of KCPS school buildings on designated dates and times.
