NIH RADx-UP Common Data Elements

NIH RADx-UP Common Data Elements

RADx-UP is a part of RADx, the overall National Institutes of Health (NIH) initiative to help speed innovation in the development and implementation of COVID-19 testing.  One of the priorities for RADx is building the NIH COVID RADx Data Hub, a national resource of RADx-generated research data that can help researchers and public health officials better understand the impact of the pandemic, including the outcomes, the disparities, and the possible solutions.

In order to ensure consistency in how RADx-UP projects collect data for the RADx Data Hub and simplify the analysis of that data, the NIH defined a set of Common Data Elements (CDEs). The NIH RADx-UP CDEs provide a standard set of study questions that RADx-UP projects are required to use in their COVID-19 testing studies. The RADx-UP Coordination and Data Collection Center (CDCC) also provided an Informed Consent Form (ICF) data sharing language template to help standardize the consent process.

The consistent use of the CDEs and ICF data sharing language by RADx-UP projects will allow the RADx-UP consortium to aggregate data from across all the populations and communities that projects study and engage. The CDCC has begun depositing that collected data into the COVID RADx Data Hub, enabling rapid and increased learning about this pandemic.

If you have questions about the CDEs or ICF data sharing language, contact RADx-UP-CDCC@duke.edu.

NIH RADx-UP CDEs Version 1.7 (Released January 9, 2023)

The NIH RADx-UP CDEs v1.7 are available for all projects to incorporate, and the CDCC will be ready to accept uploads using these new data elements beginning in the coming months.

For excel document outlining the changes between v1.6 and v1.7 of the NIH RADx-UP CDEs, download the NIH RADx-UP CDEs Change Log.

Please note that the new Phase 3 RADx-UP projects funded after November 1, 2022 must use the Phase 3 version of the NIH RADx-UP CDEs, while projects funded before November 1, 2022 should use the Legacy version of the NIH RADx-UP CDES (find here).
